Mark Landon Smith

Mark Landon Smith is the author of nine scripts published by Samuel French. His titles include Faith County, Faith County 2: An Evening of Culture, Dupont, Mississippi, Radio T.B.S., Hindenberg! Das Explosive New Musical!, The Really Hip Adventures of Go-Go Girl, The Pirate Show, Christmas Carol High School, and A Dicken's Christmas Carol: A Traveling Travesty in Two Tumultuous Acts. His script Teenagers From Outer Space is published by Contemporary Drama Service. He is a 2012 AATE Distinguished Play nominee. He has also written commissions for The Forum Theatre, Ceramic Cow Productions, Arts Live Theatre, Arkansas Travellers Dinner Theatre and others. Commission titles include The Wizard of Oz, Bigfoot Love, Radio Dazed, Night of the Living Dead, Plan 9 From Outer Space, The Secret Garden, Alice In Wonderland, and Oliver Twist. His work is produced throughout the world and include two foreign translations, an Off-Broadway production and a film adaptation. He is the Executive Director of Arts Live Theatre, co-founder and co-producer of Ceramic Cow Productions and co-director of Phunbags Comedy Improv. His film Dupont, Mississippi: F5, which he wrote, co-directed and co-produced, was featured at the International Film Festival of New York. His scripts Assistance Needed and Billie Jean Is Not My Lover were winning entries in the 2007 and 2009 24-Hour Play Festival. He also serves as co-director of the Playwright's Workshop with TheatreSquared, recently voted one of ten emerging theatres in the country by the American Theatre Wing. Education includes BA, MA, and post-graduate work in Theatre. He has served as Artistic Director of The Actor's Workshop Theatre Company, The Youth Repertory Theatre Company, President of the Fine Arts Council Drama Division, is an AAC registered artist and a member of The Dramatists Guild. As actor he has appeared on stage with the Theatre Squared, McCoy Repertory Theatre, The Forum Theatre, The Metropolitan Opera, Gaslight Dinner Theatre, Ceramic Cow Productions, Kernoodle Theatre, Studio 404, Circuit Playhouse, JCC Theatre, Boar's Head Players, Circuit Playhouse, Theatre Memphis, Tidal Theatre Company, Tsunami Radio Theatre and more. Film and Television credits include Gordon Family Tree, For Kid's Sake, Frog Hair, Experiment 519, and Simple Pleasures. He is a contributing author of the humor book Elvis Liked His Bacon Crispy (Mustang Publishing) and author of the forthcoming Mister Fancy Pants. Directing credits include Les Miserables, Guys and Dolls, Little Shop of Horrors, Damn Yankees, Wonderful Town, Anything Goes, All My Sons, Crimes of the Heart, Nunsense, Nunsense: The Second Coming, The Secret Garden, The Jungle Book, Holes, The Music Man, Li'l Abner, Moon Over Buffalo, Frankenstein, Crimes of the Heart, Faith County, Faith County 2: An Evening of Culture, Radio T.B.S., The Really Hip Adventures of Go-Go Girl and more. Awards include Best Actor (ACTF) a two-time Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship Finalist, Best Actor (FAC), Best Actor (Kernoddle Theatre), Best Actor (Boar's Head Players), and Best Set Design (ACTF). He has served as adjunct faculty at Mid-South College, Tulsa University, NcK Talent, Lewis/Glaub Agency, Ceramic Cow Comedy College, and is a frequent guest artist for workshops in directing, acting, comedy improv, and playwrighting. He has been featured on NPR on the internationally syndicated program 'Tales from the South'.
